Energy Audit Credentials

Voluntary participation in the program also enables builders to qualify for federal tax credits that may be available, receive money back from the Wisconsin Energy Star Homes program, provides them and their customers documentation on the performance of the house thus reducing callbacks, and may even provide happier loyal customers.

Examples of some questions that should be answered at the planning stage:  How much ventilation should your house have?  Is my my home too tight? Is continuous ventilation installed, and am I over venting the house? Is my house energy efficient?  What are the projected utility bills?

You could hold your thumb up to the house and guess the answers to these and many other questions,  but going through the painless process of certification (that doesn't take any more time on the schedule than normal) you'll know the answers for sure, you'll know the home has been tested by a certified and accredited HERS rater that is providing unbiased information, you'll know more about your largest investment, and since you've invested in the program, testing and certification you'll enjoy an extra chip in your stack when it comes time to sell. 

*It’s not a “Wisconsin ENERGY STAR® home” unless it has the, "WISCONSIN ENERGY STAR®HOMES" program logo, and the builder can provide proof or documentation that the home's been individually tested, and certified to be a Wisconsin ENERGY STAR® home by an accredited and certified HERS rater. Beware of those who claim the home they build is "ENERGY STAR®" qualified, but can’t provide the proof!  If all else fails ask to speak to their certified  and accredited consultant (they signed up with) providing them these services.
